MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. – The NAIA announced the list of teams that have earned the distinction for NAIA Scholar-Teams for the 2016-17 academic year. Milligan College placed 15 teams on the list with the women’s basketball team leading the way with a 3.584 grade-point average. The women’s volleyball team followed closely with a 3.578 GPA.
A total of 1,677 teams from the NAIA’s 249 member institutions made the list. Grade-point averages ranged from the required minimum of 3.0 to an NAIA-leading 3.9. With their team GPA of 3.58, both the Milligan women’s basketball team and women’s volleyball team ranked inside the top 200.

Throughout the year several individuals earned academic distinction, including 74 Buffaloes who made the Appalachian Athletic Conference All-Academic team for their respective sport and 29 Buffaloes who made the Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete team. The women’s basketball team once again led the way in placing individuals on the conference All-Academic list with 15 members earning the distinction. The women’s volleyball team led the way with six individuals on the Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete list.
For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale as defined by the institution. The team grade-point average includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.
Individually, student-athletes must maintain a 3.3 GPA for the AAC All-Academic distinction. To be considered for the Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete award, student-athletes must have achieved junior or higher academic status and must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
