Ball State Women’s Swimming and Diving Set to Compete in Conference Meet

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State women’s swimming and diving team will travel to Oxford, Ohio to compete in the Mid-American Conference Championship meet Wednesday, Feb. 22 through Saturday, Feb. 25.

“We are very excited for the meet and more ready to compete than we have been all season,” said head coach Kristy Patterson. “This is where we are at our best and can see how we stack up against the other MAC schools. Our athletes are seeded well, which gives us lots of opportunity to swim again at finals.”

LAST YEAR

The Ball State women’s swimming and diving team placed eighth in the 2016 MAC Swimming and Diving Championships after earning 131 points. Over the course of the four day event, the Cardinals combined to earn top-16 finishes on eight occasions, as well as top-8 finishes in five events.

Akron was able to seal its third consecutive MAC Championship title with a performance of 773.5 points, while Eastern Michigan earned third with 592 points. Last year’s host school Bowling Green earned third place with 478 points.
PRESEASON RANKINGS

The Akron Zips were selected in the preseason coaches’ poll to repeat as MAC Championships. Leading the way for Akron is 2015-16 MAC Swimming Coach of the Year, Brian Peresie, and MAC Diving Coach of the Year, Chris Medvedeff.

Eastern Michigan was selected to finish second in the Mid-American Conference this season. Returning for the Eagles is 2015-16 All MAC first-team recipient Delaney Duncan. Duncan set the Women’s MAC Championship record in the 100 Breaststroke last season, with a time of 59.46.

Miami was picked to finish third, receiving two first place votes, while Buffalo and Bowling Green were selected to finish fourth and fifth, respectively. Ohio, Toledo, and Ball State all round out the poll.
