Hershey also announces return of netminder Joe Cannata from South Carolina of the ECHL
Hershey, PA – The Washington Capitals have announced the recall of forward Travis Boyd from the Hershey Bears hockey team. Additionally, Hershey has announced the return of goaltender Joe Cannata from the club’s ECHL affiliate, the South Carolina Stingrays.
Boyd, 23, has enjoyed a standout season for Hershey, ranking second on the club in points (42), sixth on the team in goals (11), and first on the team in assists (32). He was named to the 2017 AHL All-Star Classic, and scored three points (two goals, one assist) at the All-Star Challenge. Boyd was a sixth round selection of the Capitals in the 2011 NHL Draft. This is his first recall to Washington.
The native of Hopkins, Minnesota has scored 98 points (33 goals, 65 assists) in 131 career games with Hershey. He posted nine points (two goals, seven assists) in 21 playoff games during Hershey’s run to the Calder Cup Finals in 2016. He tallied the Game 7, overtime winning goal in the Atlantic Division Finals versus Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on May 15, 2016.
Cannata, 27, returns to Hershey after playing in three games with the Stingrays last week. He went a perfect 3-0-0 with South Carolina, registering a 2.33 goals against average and a .916 save percentage. Cannata is 10-5-4 with Hershey this season, logging a 3.24 goals against average and a .875 save percentage in 21 appearances.
