BRADENTON, Fla. — Wojciech Wojcik scored two goals and Daniel Jackson had two assists as OKC Energy FC improved to 3-0 in the 2017 preseason with a 3-2 win over FC Cincinnati Sunday at IMG Academy.
With the score tied 1-1 in the 72nd minute, Jackson slipped past a FC Cincinnati defender in the attacking zone and sent a low cross to Wojcik, who chipped a shot into the upper-left corner of the goal for a 2-1 Energy FC lead.
Eleven minutes later, the duo of Wojcik and Jackson added to OKC’s lead, when Jackson corralled a cross into the box by Alejandro Covarrubias and shuffled quickly to the left, where Wojcik flipped a shot over leaping FC Cincinnati keeper Dallas Jaye for what would be the game’s deciding goal.
Energy FC took a 1-0 lead early in the match. On a free kick awarded to OKC in the attacking third, Juan Pablo Guzman played a soft touch to Covarrubias, who blasted a shot from the top of the Cincinnati box that sailed past starting goalkeeper Mitch Hildebrandt.
FC Cincinnati tied the game at a goal apiece in the 60th minute, when Daryl Fordyce took a feed from Djiby Fall and pushed a shot past OKC keeper Cody Laurendi.
After Wojcik’s two goals, FC Cincinnati cut its deficit to one goal when Austin Berry scored off a corner kick in the 89th minute, but OKC managed to possess the ball in the waning minutes of play to hold on for the win.
Energy FC next faces Ottawa Fury FC in a 5 p.m. CST start Thursday, Feb. 22 at IMG Academy.
