BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – On Friday the OVC revealed the final two matchups that are part of the league’s eight-game football “Game of the Week” package that will be carried exclusively on ESPN3 this fall, and both of them will feature the Gamecocks.
The third game in the series will feature Eastern Kentucky at Jacksonville State and will be played on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m. CT while the fourth game in the series is Jacksonville State at Eastern Illinois on Saturday, Oct. 21 (2 p.m. CT).
The league announced earlier this week the eight-game package will also feature four Wildcard Selections (October 29, November 5, November 12 and November 19) which will be announced roughly 12 days before the contest. The first two games in the package, which were announced on Thursday, included Tennessee State at UT Martin (Sept. 23) and Eastern Illinois at Tennessee State (Sept. 30).
The announcement puts JSU’s total for regionally or nationally televised games at four for the upcoming season. The Gamecocks open the season on ESPN on Aug. 26 against Chattanooga in Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl. JSU’s second game of the season at Georgia Tech on Sept. 9, will be broadcast on the Regional Sports Network, which is carried by various networks across the southeast.
Last year Jacksonville State returned three interceptions for touchdowns in topping Eastern Kentucky 24-7. It marked the fourth-straight victory for the Gamecocks over the Colonels; JSU now leads the all-time series 8-6.
Jacksonville State won its third-straight game over Eastern Illinois a season ago (extending its advantage in the all-time series to 8-6), winning 47-14 in front of a Homecoming crowd at Burgess-Snow Field. Overall EIU and JSU have combined to win the last five OVC Championships.
This marks the fifth-straight season the league has produced the Game of the Week package in conjunction with Tupelo Raycom (formerly WebStream Sports).
Tupelo Raycom, a Raycom Media company, brings together Tupelo-Honey (founded 1996) and WebStream Sports (2006). With offices in New York, Indianapolis, Charlotte, Nashville and Los Angeles the company develops new programming and delivers live events, music specials and branded features for broadcast, digital and in-venue entertainment.
Kevin Ingram, host of “The Wake Up Zone” on 104.5 The Zone in Nashville, will handle play-by-play duties while Bob Belvin, on-air talent and contributor at 104.1 FM/AM 540 (ESPN Clarksville), will provide analysis. The duo has worked together each of the past five years in the league’s TV package.
The OVC Football Game of the Week package is part of an overall multiyear agreement with ESPN which was announced in October 2013.
