Two Rainbow Warriors take on the Midwest
Rochester, Minn. – The Rochester Honkers announced today that two players from the University of Hawaii will be making the trip to Rochester for the 2017 Northwoods League season. Catcher David Noworyta, and infielder Dustin Demeter will be coming to the Midwest for their first season with the Honkers.
David Noworyta is a 6-foot-4, 195-pound redshirt sophomore from Hainesport, N.J. In his first year with the Rainbow Warriors, he appeared in 10 games hitting .250 with one RBI. He played his high school ball at Holy Cross Academy in Delran, N.J. where he finished his senior season hitting .320 with 13 RBIs, and a .405 on-base percentage, leading his team to a Burlington County Scholastic League (BCSL) Championship. He also played three seasons of basketball, earning three BCSL titles and a 9.0 PPG average as a senior. Noworyta was selected in the 37th round by the Kansas City Royals in the 2014 MLB First Year Player Draft.
Dustin Demeter is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound freshman from Goleta, Calif. In his senior season with Dos Pueblos High school, Demeter batted .374 with 28 runs, 28 RBIs, 12 doubles, six home runs, and two triples, earning him team MVP honors. He was chosen first team All-Channel League as a junior and senior, and second team honors as a freshman and sophomore. Demeter was drafted in the 38th round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Miami Marlins.
Hawaii starts their 2017 campaign off on February 17-19 as NC State travels to Honolulu, Hawaii for a three-game series at Les Murakami Stadium.
The Rochester Honkers 24th season begins on Tuesday, May 30th when the team hosts the Mankato Moondogs in their home opener at Mayo Field at 7:05 pm.
