INDIANAPOLIS – Martez Walker has been named Horizon League Player of the Week after he averaged 22 points per game to lead Oakland to a pair of wins, including a season sweep of league-leading Valparaiso. Carson Williams of Northern Kentucky is the Horizon League Freshman of the Week after averaging 16.5 points and eight rebounds per game while hitting on 72.2 percent of his field goal attempts.

Walker led the way for the Golden Grizzlies in a weekend sweep over Valparaiso and UIC. The guard led with game-highs in points with 21 and 23 respectively shooting a combined 57 percent (13 of 23) from the floor. Walker has recorded 11 20-plus point performances on the year and the Golden Grizzlies have an 11-1 recorded when he is the leading scorer.
Sunday’s win over UIC marked the 11 consecutive game Walker has tallied double figure points. The Detroit native shot 38 percent from 3 point range and 87 percent (13 of 15) from the free throw line.
The award is the first of the season for Walker.

Williams dropped a career-high 22 points thanks to 10-of-14 shooting in NKU’s win at Cleveland State. He followed with his fourth double-double of the year, with 11 points and 10 rebounds at Youngstown State.
He averaged 16.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game on the road this weekend, while shooting a sensational 72.2 percent (13-of-18)
This is the third Freshman of the Week honor for Williams (Nov. 14; Dec. 19).
