BOSTON – For the sixth time this season, Vermont freshman forward Anthony Lamb has been named the America East Rookie of the Week. The league office made the announcement on Monday.
Lamb averaged 14.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game as the Catamounts posted a 3-0 week. In Thursday’s 82-74 win over twin state rival UNH, Lamb recorded his second double-double of his rookie campaign with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Lamb’s 26-point outing matched a career-high after shooting 9-of-16 from the floor. On the boards, the freshman muscled nine of his 13 rebounds on the offensive glass.
On Sunday, Lamb scored 16 points as UVM held off UMBC for a 77-74 win. He made 4-of-7 attempts from the field and sank 7-of-8 trips to the charity stripe, including a pair that clinched the victory for UVM in the final seconds.
The Rochester, N.Y. is the first Catamount to collect six America East Rookie of the Week nods since Brian Voelkel in 2010-11. The 2016-17 Catamounts are the eighth team in America East history to start conference play at 13-0. With the win at UMBC, UVM tied a program record for most consecutive overall (15) and conference victories (13).
Vermont returns to the hardwood on Wednesday (Feb. 15) at UMass Lowell in the road finale. Action gets underway at 7 p.m. All UVM men’s basketball games can be heard on ESPN 101.3 FM and online at 1013ESPN.com with Sam Hyman on the call. The game can be seen on ESPN3 and the watchESPN app by logging in with your cable provider.
