Defender to join South Carolina during club’s road trip this week
Hershey, PA – The Hershey Bears announced today that defenseman Joey Leach has been loaned to the club’s ECHL affiliate, the South Carolina Stingrays.
Leach, 24, has skated in 18 games with Hershey this season, registering three assists and a plus/minus of +8. The 6-foot-4, 211-pound defender has appeared in 24 career games with the Bears over the past two seasons, notching six assists, a +13 rating, and 42 penalty minutes.
During his last stint in South Carolina, the Wadena, Saskatchewan native appeared in four games, scoring his first goal of the season in the Stingrays 5-4 overtime victory versus Florida on Jan. 28. With South Carolina this season, Leach has six points (one goal, five assists) and 11 penalty minutes in eight games. Leach was the ECHL’s plus/minus leader in the 2015-16 season with South Carolina, posting a +40 mark.
The Bears return to action in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday. Hershey returns home to Giant Center this Saturday for Capital BlueCross Baseball Cap Night and College Night Delivered by Papa John’s. The Bears host Hartford at 7 p.m. that evening. Ticket information is available at HersheyBears.com.
