Senior averaged 21 points and led RedHawks to two victories
PULASKI, Tenn. – Martin Methodist Men’s Basketball standout Caleb Chowbay has been named the Southern States Athletic Conference’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 5, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Chowbay, a senior guard from Nashville, Tennessee, earned the award after he helped guide the RedHawks to two road victories at Brewton-Parker (Ga.) College and College of Coastal Georgia.
On the week, Chowbay averaged 21 points, four rebounds, two assists and 2.5 steals per game. Chowbay also shot 73 percent from the floor and 77 percent from 3-point range in the victories. Chowbay was especially effective in the win at Coastal Georgia as he sank 6-of-8 attempts from downtown and finished with 24 points – 22 of which came in the first half.
The award is the first of Chowbay’s career and the first by a RedHawk this season.
Martin Methodist returns to action this Thursday for a showdown against No. 4 Dalton State (Ga.) College. The RedHawks (16-8) have won nine of their last 10 contests and 11 of their last 13.
Tipoff in Thursday night’s contest is set for 7:30 p.m. in the Curry Christian Life Center.
