Kyle Everly, Simón Homedes Dualde receive academic honors from ITA

TEMPE, Ariz.—Two Gonzaga men’s tennis players received academic honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as Kyle Everly and Simón Homedes Dualde were named ITA Scholar Athletes.

The two rising sophomores saw strong starts to their careers last season. Everly won 15 singles matches, including four at the EWU Fall Classic to win a bracket in his first collegiate tournament. During the spring dual season, the Lafayette, Calif., native was a fixture in the singles lineup, too. Homedes Dualde, meanwhile, led the team with 15 doubles victories, 10 of which came at No. 3 doubles during the spring.  A native of Barcelona, Spain, Homedes Dualde worked his way into the singles lineup, playing in 14 dual matches.

The pair were just as good in the classroom last year as Everly posted a 3.73 GPA and Homedes Dualde a 3.84. Both are undeclared business majors.

In order to be named an ITA Scholar Athlete, a student-athlete must be a varsity letter winner, hold a GPA of at least 3.50, and be enrolled at their school for at least two semesters.

Everly, Homedes Dualde, and the rest of the men’s tennis team will begin classes for the 2017-18 school year on Tuesday, Aug. 29. The fall tournament season will begin in October.
