NAIA Announces 2016-17 Scholar-Teams

Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College Athletic Department is proud to announce that a total of eight teams have been named National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Scholar-Teams for the 2016-17 school year.

Men’s and women’s soccer, women’s basketball, softball, women’s cross country, women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, and volleyball were all selected to represent Columbia College. For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade-point average includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.

The men’s soccer team finished with a team GPA of 3.08. The team finished with nine AMC Academic All-Conference selections including Mark Steiniger and Zachary Felz who also earned Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors.

The women’s soccer team finished with a team GPA of 3.15. The team finished with 11 AMC Academic All-Conference selections including Christina Conley, Laurie Frew, Jordan Poire, Tiffany Weaver, and Katelyn Palmer who all earned Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors.

The women’s basketball team finished with a team GPA of 3.33. The team had 11 AMC Academic All-Conference selections including Samantha Cavlovich and Nikki Fuemmeler who were both recognized as Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

The softball team finished with a team GPA of 3.20. The team had 15 AMC Academic All-Conference selections including Lauren McCroskie, Rachel Sullivan and Julianna Waldner who were all recognized as Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. In addition, McCroskie and Sullivan were also named to the first and second CoSIDA Academic All-America teams, respectively.

The women’s cross country team finished with a team GPA of 3.00 while the women’s indoor and outdoor track and field teams both finished with team GPA’s of 3.25. For the cross country team, Abby Beshuk and Grace Young earned AMC Academic All-Conference honors while Riley Fader, Rachel Guse, Kaleea Johnson, Cassidy Johnston, Kaleena Logan, Tess Losacker, Jerica Mahaney, Naomi Payne, Meaghan Rice, Abbegail Robinson, Mikayla Sehlmeyer, and Grace Young all earned the honors for the track and field team. In addition, Riley Fader and Cassidy Johnston were also recognized as Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

The volleyball team finished with a team GPA of 3.06. The team had seven AMC Academic All-Conference selections including Peiyi Liu and Sami Meyer who were also named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. In addition, Peiyi Liu was also named the CoSIDA Academic All-America of the Year.
