Peter Vermes is one of the most intense coaches in Major League Soccer.

So it’s not exactly a surprise that the Sporting KC manager was less than thrilled with the US men’s national team’s apparent lack of desire in Tuesday’s 2-1 loss at Trinidad & Tobago that bounced the Americans from the World Cup.

“I thought the performance on the field, for a final game like that and everything that you were going for, that game was not representative of a US team on the field – not the way they played, Vermes, who played for the US at the 1990 World Cup, told The Kansas City Star on Wednesday. “It didn’t have the intensity, didn’t have the desire, the hunger, the fight. It was not good enough. That’s it. That’s all I can tell you.

Vermes and SKC lost 2-1 at the Houston Dynamo on Wednesday night.
