U SPORTS TOP 10 Tuesday: Women’s basketball moves to No.3 for first time in team history, men’s hockey settles at No.9

TORONTO (U SPORTS) – The Queen’s women’s basketball team continues to rise in the U SPORTS Top10 rankings reaching a program-best No.3 in the nation this week. Queen’s men’s hockey hangs onto a spot in the national rankings as well coming in at No.9.

The Gaels women’s basketball team is currently 16-0 and the only undefeated team in U SPORTS conference play. Queen’s had set their highest ranking record at No.4 in previous weeks and have now surpassed that and established No.3 as the new benchmark. The Gaels will put their 16-0 mark on the line Friday night as the No.5 Carleton Ravens come to Kingston.

A week after claiming their first No.1 spot in 14 years, the Manitoba Bisons remain the team to beat in U SPORTS men’s volleyball, while the Guelph Gryphons continue to sweep the track and field polls, as all 12 national leaders remain on top of the national rankings.

In swimming and wrestling, the UBC Thunderbirds and Brock Badgers retain the lead position in both the men’s and women’s polls, with conference championships on tap this weekend. Toronto (OUA), UPEI (AUS) and Laval (RSEQ) will host swimming championships, while McMaster (OUA) and Saskatchewan (Canada West), welcome the best wrestlers in their respective conferences. The Canada West Swimming Championship took place in November.

In other U SPORTS rankings, Carleton (men’s basketball), Laval (women’s basketball), UNB (men’s hockey), UBC (women’s hockey), and Alberta (women’s volleyball) hold on to their pole positions for another week.
