Panthers edged by Rollins in doubles play
WINTER PARK, Fla. – Florida Tech (12-10, SSC 1-7) takes its third consecutive loss, 6-3 after this afternoons match against Rollins (10-9, SSC 5-4) at Tiedtke Tennis Courts.
“We actually played better doubles today but Rollins was a little better on the big points” head coach Bill Macom said. “We are getting smarter in our matches, so hopefully this one prepared us for Friday’s showdown”.
During this afternoons match, the Panthers couldn’t clinch their doubles, as all three Florida Tech duos dropped to Rollins, falling behind, 3-0.
In singles, Erin Egoroff started for the Panthers facing SSC rival Fabiana Vicinanza, falling in two sets. Alahna Reto pulled out a big win for the Panthers, as she downed Shannon Etter 6-0, 6-1. In the next two matches, Lauren Stuckey and Kayla Hergott dropped to their opponent, as Rollins increased its margin, 6-1.
Mariana Castaneiras took the second point for the Panthers, as she clinched her win over Savanna Fuller in three sets (2-6, 6-2, 1-9). Maria Chun was the last on for FIT, and the freshman earned the third win of the day for the Crimson and Gray defeating Teresa Kaiser 6-2, 6-2.
Returning to the courts, Florida Tech is scheduled for another match this Friday when it hosts the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish at Campus Courts. The match is scheduled to start at 12 p.m. ET. For more coverage please visit FloridaTechSports.com to access more news and information!
