BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Brandon Allen (East Elmhurst, N.Y.) and freshman Zachary Astle (Newbury, N.H.) were among the University of New Hampshire men’s indoor track & field athletes who came up with impressive performances last weekend at two sites.
The Wildcats split their squad and in general the more veteran members of the team competed at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University on Saturday and the younger athletes competed in a dual meet at Maine the same day.
Allen turned in a time of 49.46 seconds in the 400-meter dash, beating his old personal record by more than two seconds.
Team scores were not compiled at BU.
Astle set new personal bests in winning the both the shot put and the weight throw at the meet in Orono. He put the shot 50 feet, 11.5 inches and threw the weight 51 feet, 0.25 inches.
Maine won the meet in Orono with 94 points and UNH had 71 points.
•The America East Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held Feb. 24 and Feb. 25 at the Track & Tennis Center at Boston University.
Several Wildcats set personal records at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at BU.
Among them were:
•Junior Joel Nkounkou (Dover, N.H.) at 8.76 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles.
•Senior John Cox (Rome, Ga.) at 1:05.91 in the 500.
•Freshman Matthew Adams (Concord, N.H. at 1:05.05 in the 500.
•Sophomore Ryan Hanley (Hampton, N.H.) at 23.02 in the 200.
•Junior Joseph Poggi (Derry, N.H.) at 2:31.15 in the 1000.
•Freshman Nicolas Ochoa-Sevilla (Chester, N.H.) at 15:14.10 in the 5000.
•Junior Timothy Kenefick (Guilford, Conn.) at 15:20.02 in the 5000.
•Senior Mitchell Dutton (Salem, N.H. at 15:28.03 in the 5000.
•Senior Jacob Kittredge (Amherst, N.H.) in the 800.
Event winners at Maine, besides Astle, included:
•Freshman Christian Ehlers (Kingston, N.H.) in the 500 meter.
•Freshman Christopher Gansfuss (Flemington, N.J.) in the 60 meter hurdles.
