Bowen Earns Hockey East Player of the Week Honors


WAKEFIELD, Mass. – After a four-point weekend in his home state, sophomore Brian Bowen was named the Warrior Hockey East Player of the Week on Monday by the league.

Bowen scored three goals and added an assist in a pair of ties against first-place Boston College at Conte Forum. The Littleton, Massachusetts native registered a goal and an assist on Friday night as the Catamounts stormed back from 3-0 down to earn a 3-3 tie. He then scored both of UVM’s goals on Saturday in a 2-2 Hockey East deadlock.

Bowen finished the weekend at plus-3 with 11 shots on goal. The forward now leads the team with 11 goals on the season and ranks second on the team in points with 22. Since the turn of the New Year, he leads the squad with nine goals, 15 points, three power play goals, and 46 shots on goal in 12 contests.

15th-ranked UVM (17-10-5, 9-7-4 HEA) has clinched at least home ice in the Hockey East first round. With 22 points, Vermont has a two-point lead on its final regular season opponent Merrimack and trails fifth-place Providence by just one point. The Catamounts are three points behind UMass Lowell for the fourth and final first round bye.

Vermont closes the regular season in Burlington this weekend against the surging Warriors for Senior Weekend on Friday (Feb. 24) and Saturday (Feb. 25) at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available by logging on to or by calling 802-656-4410.

Friday is Green Out The Gut Night presented by Casella Waste Systems and fans are encouraged to wear green. Saturday is Senior Night at Gutterson Fieldhouse as the Catamounts honor the 10 members of their senior class before the game.
