DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men’s and women’s fencing program will host the annual Duke Meet this weekend, Feb. 11-12 in Card Gymnasium. Both days of fencing will kick off at 8 a.m. and go until approximately 4:15 p.m.
Saturday will feature the men’s competition, followed by the women on Sunday. The Blue Devil men will face off against MIT, Air Force, Johns Hopkins and ACC foes Boston College and North Carolina, while the women will compete against the same lineup with Northwestern in place of Johns Hopkins.
With three meets completed so far in the 2017 season, the ninth-ranked men hold a season record of 11-5 (1-0 ACC), while the Blue Devil women enter the weekend with a 10-8 (1-0 ACC) ledger.
Five Blue Devil fencers have recorded 30-or-more victories through the first three competitions, led by junior saberist Haley Fisher with a 35-14 record. Fisher is joined by junior saberist and 2016 ACC Champion Jennifer Ling and former ACC Female Fencer of the Week, freshman Lindsay Sapienza. Ling and Sapienza have recorded 32 and 32 wins, respectively.
Two rookies lead the men’s squad with foilist Eoin Gronningsater and saberist Duncan De Caire. Gronningsater sits atop the men’s leaderboard with an impressive 32-5 ledger, followed closely behind by De Caire posting 32-11. Both Gronningsater and De Caire have collected ACC Male Fencer of the Week accolades, with Gronningsater claiming the honor twice.

Due to a home men’s basketball game Saturday afternoon, general public parking for the fencing meet will be available in the men’s basketball general public parking lots located in the Circuit Lots on Circuit Drive at a cost of $10 per vehicle. For Sunday’s portion of the meet, general parking for guests on will be free and available in the Science Drive Garage located off of NC 751/Cameron Blvd.
