LYNCHBURG, Va. – For the third week in a row and the seventh time this season, Liberty post player Keyen Green has been recognized as the Come Ready Nutrition Big South Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week.
A native of Philadelphia, Pa., Green was previously named Big South Freshman of the Week on Dec. 5, Jan. 2, Jan. 9, Jan. 16, Feb. 6 and Feb. 13. Her seven Big South Freshman of the Week honors tie her with Cheyenne Parker (High Point, 2010-11), Kaylah Keys (High Point, 2013-14) and Erica Williams (Winthrop, 2013-14) for the most by any player in conference history.
For the week, Green led the Lady Flames in scoring (14.0 ppg) and blocked shots (1.5 bpg). She was efficient from both the field (71.4 percent, 10-of-14) and the foul line (88.9 percent, 8-of-9).
Green posted a team-high 22 points, a game-high eight rebounds and a game-high three blocked shots at High Point on Tuesday. Nine of her points came in the fourth quarter, as Liberty trimmed what was once a 19-point deficit to five, before the Lady Flames ultimately lost, 78-69. The game marked Green’s fourth 20-point outing of the season.
Green was limited to 16 minutes due to foul trouble on Friday, but contributed six points and four rebounds to the Lady Flames’ 67-56 home win over Charleston Southern. She went 2-of-2 from the free throw line with 1:43 remaining in the fourth quarter and Liberty clinging to a 6-point lead, helping the Lady Flames record their eighth straight home win.
Green’s 12 rebounds last week give her 202 for the season, making her the first Liberty freshman to grab 200+ boards since Ashley Rininger in 2012-13. She ranks No. 5 nationally among freshmen with 8.1 rpg this season.
Green leads the Big South in rebounds (8.1 rpg), offensive rebounds (3.7 rpg) and field goal percentage (58.8). She also ranks fourth in blocked shots (1.1 bpg), seventh in defensive rebounds (4.4 rpg) and eighth in scoring (12.1 ppg).
Liberty (10-15, 9-5 Big South) will play its final two regular-season road games this week. The Lady Flames will travel to Longwood (4-21, 1-13 Big South) Tuesday at 7 p.m. before heading to Winthrop (2-24, 1-13 Big South) for a Saturday 1 p.m. contest.
