GW’s Washington Earns Second Straight A-10 Player of the Week Award

Senior forward posted another big week as GW picked up key wins over Rhode Island & Dayton

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – George Washington women’s basketball senior forward Caira Washington has been named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, the league office announced on Monday.

Washington had another big week on both ends of the floor to help the Colonials to a pair of wins and a season-best four-game win streak.

In Wednesday’s rout of Rhode Island, Washington was efficient by hitting 5-of-6 field goals for 10 points in addition to five assists, three blocks, three steals and two rebounds.

She followed up that performance with a monster game on Sunday as GW snapped Dayton’s 11-game win streak. Washington contributed a 15-point, 14-rebound double-double. Her points came on 7-of-15 shooting from the field and she added four steals, three blocks and two assists.

For the week she shot 57 percent (12-of-21) from the field with averages of 12.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 3.5 steals and 3.0 blocks.

Monday’s honor marks the third time this season she has earned Player of the Week honors (Nov. 28, Feb. 6) and the fourth time in her career.

GW continues its three-game homestand on Wednesday when it hosts St. Bonaventure at the Charles E. Smith Center (7pm).
