The United States Women’s Football League is pleased to announce that the Indiana Prime has signed on as a full member and will play in the USWFL for the 2017 season. Based in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the Prime will compete in the Mid-Atlantic Division.
The Prime are only the second women’s football team to call the Summit City home, following the Fort Wayne Flash of the National Women’s Football Association and later the Women’s Football Alliance. During their three years of play, the Flash never had a losing season and qualified for the 2008 NWFA playoffs, the league’s last before folding. Mindful of this history, Prime owner/head coach John Davis Jr.is ready to continue the mission the Flash carried out years ago.
“We’re here to provide a team which people of all ages can enjoy,” Davis says. “We’re here to teach the game to people who are willing to learn, providing an outlet to prove to women that they can do anything men can, including and ESPECIALLY play and be competitive in full tackle football!
The Prime’s mission statement is as follows:
“Our mission is to empower the growth of girls, young ladies and women within our community and throughout our state utilizing the principles of teamwork, discipline, dedication and sportsmanship. We facilitate the development of strength and character while focusing on self-awareness, fitness, personal and professional development.
“The goal of the Indiana Prime is to provide an encouraging, safe and productive environment for women of all ages, races, religions, cultures and talents to participate in a sport that they love in a challenging yet friendly competitive arena.”
