FRISCO, Texas – University of the Incarnate Word junior John Shull was named Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
A local product out of Churchill High School, Shull took home the honor after a dominant performance on the hill against Northwestern State on Friday night. Shull tossed a complete-game shutout and tied a career-high with 12 strikeouts. He surrendered just two hits and allowed only one walk in the victory.
“John had a great night,” Pitching Coach Chase Tidwell said. “Northwestern State only got one runner to third base all night. John is as consistent as there is. We know what we are going to get every time he goes out there, and then he turns in one or two of these type outings every year. It was fun to watch and I am happy for John and our program.”
The Cardinals host cross-town rival UTSA at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Sullivan Field.
UIW returns to Southland Conference action this weekend with a three-game home series against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
