MATCH PREVIEW: Columbus Crew SC Travels To California To Take On The San Jose Earthquakes Tomorrow


Black & Gold travel to Avaya Stadium to face San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday in third consecutive road match

COLUMBUS — Columbus Crew SC (10-11-2, 32 points) travels to take on the San Jose Earthquakes (8-9-5, 29 points) at Avaya Stadium tomorrow, Saturday, August 5. The match kicks-off at 10:30 p.m. ET and is set to be televised regionally on The CW Columbus, Spectrum Sports and BCSN2, with Neil Sika and Dwight Burgess on the call. Coverage on The CW Columbus begins at 10:30 p.m. ET. Exclusively on Spectrum Sports and BCSN2, “Crew SC Matchday,” the pre-match show, begins at 10:00 p.m. ET, with “Crew SC Post-Match” immediately following the action. Saturday’s match also airs locally on the radio on CD102.5 FM in English, featuring simulcast audio from the television broadcast. La Mega 103.1 FM has the match airing in Spanish, with Juan Valladares behind the microphone. The Spanish radio calls are also set to be streamed in Spanish on the LaMega1 App and via Tunein Radio as WVKO-FM. The club’s official website,, is set to stream the English-language radio broadcast online.


Tomorrow’s match against the San Jose Earthquakes marks Crew SC’s third consecutive road contest and the club’s seventh regular season meeting against a Western Conference team this year. Heading into the match, the Black & Gold bring a winning record of 3-2-1 against Western Conference opponents in 2017. Saturday’s match will be Columbus’ 41st all-time regular-season match against San Jose, an opponent against whom the Black & Gold hold an all-time regular-season record of 19-14-7.

The Black & Gold are coming off a 2-2 draw against Real Salt Lake on July 29 in which Ola Kamara completed his first brace of the season. Crew SC was down 2-1 in the 53rd minute when Kamara scored his second goal of the night to secure a point against the Claret-and-Cobalt at Rio Tinto Stadium. Kamara’s brace brought him to 11 goals this season and he now stands alone as the Black & Gold’s 2017 regular-season top goal scorer.

Heading into the match against the Quakes, Crew SC is on the verge of scoring its 1,000th MLS regular-season goal. Dating back to the beginning of the 1996 MLS season, the Black & Gold have scored 997 regular-season goals. Crew SC would become one of only five teams to have scored 1,000 goals or more. The other teams on this list are the LA Galaxy (1,092), D.C. United (1,032), the New York Red Bulls (1,023) and FC Dallas (1,012).
