MBB: Lobos Host Boise State for Lobos Love Pink Game


ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team plays host to Boise State Tuesday night inside WisePies Arena – The Pit at 8 p.m. MT for its Lobos Love Pink game. The game will air on CBS Sports Network (Comcast 274/838 HD, DISH 158, DirecTV 221).

The Lobos will be wearing special jerseys to honor breast cancer awareness. Those jerseys will be auctioned off at the game on the east concourse with the proceeds going to UNM Cancer Center. BE KIND Stuffed Animal Drive: Bring a stuffed animal and receive a $10 bench (rows 1-10).

New Mexico is going up against Boise State for the second time this season. The Lobos claimed an 81-70 win over them in the first match-up on Jan. 17 in Boise, Idaho. In that game, the Lobos finished with four players in double-digits and was solid from the free throw line to secure the victory.

After a 74-67 victory over Air Force last week, the Lobos sit in fourth place in the Mountain West, a half-game behind third-place Nevada. The Lobos are coming off their first bye of the season.

At Air Force, the Lobos were led by Sam Logwood, who finished with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. The Lobos did not hit a field goal in the final seven minutes of the game but went 12-of-14 from the foul line to get the win.

In conference action, Elijah Brown continues to lead the Lobos at 21.2 points per game which is second among the league. He is shooting 41.2 percent from the three. Sam Logwood has been a player that has stepped up recently. In the last three games, he has averaged 14.7 points per game and is shooting 58.6 percent from the field.

The Lobos are the top shooting team in the conference as they are shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 75.5 percent from the foul line this season. Their free throw shooting percentage ranks 31st in the nation. They are back in first in the nation in KenPom’s free throw rate at 47.1.

Boise State is in first place of the Mountain West with a 9-3 record. Overall, the Broncos are 16-7. They are coming off a 76-66 victory over Air Force on Saturday.

They have three players averaging in double figures in conference games. Chandler Hutchison leads the squad at 16.7 points per game. On the season he is shooting 60.3 percent from the field, which leads the conference and 40.5 percent from the three.

As a team, the Broncos are averaging 74.6 points per game and bringing down 37.0 rebounds per game. They are shooting 44.3 percent from the field, 33.8 percent from the three and 70.6 percent from the foul line.

Craig Neal is in his fourth year as head coach of the Lobos. He is 74-48 in his career at UNM and is the first coach in Mountain West history to win on the road at San Diego State, Colorado State and Boise State in the same season. Leon Rice is in his seventh season with the Broncos. He owns a 138-82 career record.

The Lobos and the Broncos will meet for the 13th time in program history on Tuesday night. The Lobos have won the past three meetings against Boise State. The Lobos are leading the all-time series 9-3. The series dates back to the Spring of 2012. Against the Broncos, the Lobos are 5-2 on the road and 4-1 inside WisePies Arena – The Pit.

Tuesday’s game will broadcast on CBS Sports Network (Comcast 274/838 HD, DISH 158, DirecTV 221). Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. MT.
