MBB: Thomas Picks Up Second Player of the Week Nod

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Senior forward Rashawn Thomas has been named the Southland Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week after leading Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to its sixth and seventh consecutive victories last week.

Thomas was a near unstoppable force offensively, averaging 30.5 points per game in wins over Incarnate Word and Lamar. At UIW, Thomas hit a career-high 14 shots from the floor in a 14-for-19 effort that produced 32 points. The big man shot .737 in the game and knocked down a three-pointer while going a perfect 3-for-3 at the free throw line.

Three days later, Thomas broke the school’s all-time rebounding mark during homecoming against Lamar. With his second board of the night, Thomas recorded his 857th rebound to surpass Demond Watt for the all-time mark. The senior scored 29 in the matchup with the Cardinals, marking his third consecutive 20-point performance.

The honor is the second of the season for Thomas. The Islanders return to action Wednesday night at Abilene Christian in a 7:30 p.m.
