Record third quarter propels Charge over 87ers


The Canton Charge (18-14), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, defeated the Delaware 87ers (16-16), 123-112, at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark on Friday night.

Canton enjoyed a breakneck third quarter that saw them score a franchise record 48 points on 20-of-33 shooting (87%) in outscoring Delaware 48-19. The Charge also assisted on 15 of the 20 field goals in the quarter, with seven coming from both Quinn Cook and Roosevelt Jones. Canton rolled off a 23-7 run in the first half of the third before closing it out on a 25-12 run. Defensively, the visitors limited Delaware to 5-of-17 from the field (29%) and forced five turnovers for 11 points. Trailing 60-51 at intermission, the Charge took a 99-79 lead that they would never relinquish into the fourth.

Eric Moreland posted his seventh-straight game with a double-double after netting a season-high 30 points on 13-of-19 shooting with 17 boards and two steals in 39 minutes. Cook finished with a game-high 33 points on 11-of-19 shooting with 11 assists in 44 minutes. Jonathan Holmes netted 20 points on 6-of-9 shooting with six rebounds and three steals in 25 minutes. John Holland added 17 points, five boards and two steals in 39 minutes.

Danuel House came off the bench to score 22 points with seven rebounds in 28 minutes on assignment from the Washington Wizards. Chasson Randle was on assignment from the Philadelphia 76ers and scored 14 points with five assists and two steals in 35 minutes. Delaware’s Shawn Long added 14 points and seven rebounds in 26 minutes. The season series between the two teams is now even at 1-1 with a pair of matchups on each’s home court.
