Mankato, MN — The Rox waited to strike unlike last night’s win. When they did though, they pummeled the MoonDogs. They poured in 9 runs from the 7th inning on to cruise to a 10-3 win on the road. With the win, they are now atop the North Division overall standings with a 38-26 record after winning 8 of their last 11. Even with the playoff spot clinched, the Rox are still playing for home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
St. Cloud started its scoring with a Daniel Schneemann (BYU) RBI single in the 5th inning to tie the ballgame at 1. Then, in the 7th still tied, that’s when the offense erupted. With 2 outs, Trevor Putzig (Tennessee Tech) belted a two run home run to give the Rox the lead. Right after that, Keaton Kringlen (BYU) just put a ball over the wall to extend the lead to 4-1.
Three more runs scored in the 8th, and in the 9th Angelo Altavilla (Nebraska) crushed his 1st home run to Rightfield and placed an exclamation point on another big win.
The power was present, but it was also some outstanding pitching that carried the Rox. Kenny Saenz (BYU) had a solid start, where in 5 innings he allowed only 3 hits and 1 run, while striking out 6.
Still, the Rox hitting was alive and well Friday. All 9 hitters had at least one hit in the win. Kringlen paced the hitters with 3 hits, and Putzig and Cameron Eden (Cal) tallied two each.
With just 8 regular season games left until the playoffs begin, the Rox return home for a big series with the Bucks this weekend. Saturday will be Battle of the Badges Night presented by Country Financial. There will be a pregame softball game between police officers and firefighters starting at 4:05 before our 1st pitch at 6:05.
Friday’s Player of the Night is Angelo Altavilla. He hit his 1st home run of the year in the 9th inning, while also recording another hit and two walks.
