VICTORIA, TX – THE 13th ranked Texas Wesleyan University women’s golf team finished 4th at the University of Houston-Victoria’s Claud Jacobs Intercollegiate at The Club at Colony Creek after Monday’s final round was rained out.
The Lady Rams showed some rust in their first outing of the spring semester, turning in a score of 330 on Sunday. The rest of the field had similar struggles however. No. 2 Oklahoma City shot 313 to take the win. The Rams finished three strokes behind Tyler Junior College for 2nd and one shot back of Schreiner University for third.
Oklahoma City’s Emma Allen played as an individual and topped the field of 41 student-athletes with a round of even par (72). Texas Wesleyan also did not count its best score. All-American Jacey Patton returned from injury and participated as a medalist. In her first tournament action since finishing 11th at last year’s NAIA National Championship, she shot a round of 79 and finished in 9th place.
Maisy Turner led the Rams’ scoring five with a card of 80 to tie for 10th. Alex Schies and Elena Sinde Romero were three shots further back in a tie for 17th.
The Lady Rams will return to action March 20-21 when they travel to Primm, NV, to participate in the Grad View College’s Battle at Primm Valley.
– Texas Wesleyan extended its streak to 13 consecutive top-10 finishes.
– In four tournaments in the fall, the Rams placed 3rd, 10th, 2nd, and 4th.
– Texas Wesleyan has competed in the Claud Jacobs Intercollegiate in each of the last four years and finished in the top-5 in each of the last three. Last year, they were the tournament runner-up while Jacey Patton finished 5th at +10 after 54 holes.
